Lofoten Summer 2012 : Lost in the LofotensWe did it, we stuck with the plan and turned our days around. Awake all night and slept in the day, perhaps a little easier for myself than Claire as I've worked night shifts in the past. With both of us forever looking out at the sky, in our hours of rest, we arrived back home sleep deprived and in need of a feed that was more than weak tea and lettuce leaves. We had two weeks full of challenges with: new locations, mixed light and trying to decipher the writing on the packets. Some of the best images I've seen from the Lofoten Islands have been when there's snow on the ground and I wondered if I'd made the right decision to travel at the end of July. Some might want the midnight sun, and we did indeed see the sun at midnight, but the magic that transpired in the short time between the sun dipping below the horizon and appearing again was something we will not forget .......Skål! Iceland: June 2012 : Ten days filled to the brim with photographic opportunities. From the unexpected heat of the Reykjanes Peninsula and blazing sun on Flatey Island to cool blue rain at Jökulsárlón, from wild waves to moments of blissful calm, from scenes filled with colour to those almost monochrome - we did it all. It does not get dark in Iceland in June, sleep was a rare beast! Thanks to Pete and Mark for the commitment and the driving, thanks to Amanda for the hard work putting the trip together and thanks to Gudmunders little green wonder on wheels. Finally: many thanks to the rest of the gang for the great company, a bunch of jolly fine chaps. Go to Northshots if you are interested in a similar trip.

Galapagos : Some from the trip January 2008. Challenging lighting conditions from the harsh equatorial sun and not being free to choose the time of day to be out there. It did not take away from the magic of the place and would have no hesitation recommending a trip there.

Winter@68°N : I would not normally have planned it this way; but it happened, without thinking hard, for one reason or another. Four weeks in Lofoten, four of the best weeks that I can remember. Yes it was challenging; a constant battle with cold, snow and adverse driving conditions. After three weeks back home, I'm ready to go out and do it again. Only thing is: it would be hard to replicate. "The most snow", we were told, for 50 years. It started the day before I arrived, and began to melt the day before I left. Thanks again to Mr Cairns It was his trip that got the snowball rolling. Thanks too to Claire for helping organise the two weeks over Easter, and for the motivation and driving to keep me going. Will we be so fortunate in the future? Light shows are here

Lofoten Lights : At times shivering with cold and sometimes shaking with excitement, it was a real battle to capture these images. So much missed trying to get the horizon level, not having eyes in the back of your head, frost forming on the lens and forever trying to find a spot to keep out light pollution. Adding to this we lost astronomical twilight, so towards the end it never got dark on the horizon. Heaven has got a place on earth.
